Brandon Thalman
Brandon was born in Logan and grew up in Young Ward near his grandparents and several Aunts and Uncles close to the Thalman family farm. His parents divorced when he was 5, and he continued to live with his mother and two brothers in Young Ward. Brandon attended Mountain Crest High School, where he was active in football and wrestling. After graduating high school, Brandon was soon after called to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in the Seattle, Washington mission.
Not long after returning home from his mission Brandon realized he was not cut out for typical production labor and decided to give college a try by attending Utah State University. He completed a major in Sociology and graduated in 2002. Brandon was hired by Juvenile Justice Services (JJS) in 2001, where he was a youth counselor and worked in Observation and Assessment, State Supervision, and other community-based youth programs.
While working for JJS, Brandon completed a Clinical Mental Health Counseling Master’s program from the University of Phoenix. Following graduation in 2008, he worked for the Bear River Health Department providing substance abuse/addiction counseling services. Brandon’s work assignments included working in the Cache County 1st District Drug Court, Box Elder County Mental Health Court, and providing counseling services in Cache, Box Elder, and Rich Counties.
In 2020 Brandon was hired by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and now provides vocational and mental health counseling through Development Counseling Services in the Employment Services Division of Welfare Services. Brandon and his wife Jessie live in Hyrum with their four children. Brandon and Jessie spend their time cheering their children on in their many activities, including dance, color guard, hunting, fishing, football, basketball, wrestling, and showing animals in the fair. They love camping at Bear Lake and spending time with family every chance they get. Brandon’s personal interests include grilling, eating his wife’s cooking, swearing on large grassy spaces (golf), camping, fishing, following his kids sports and activities, walking in the mountains with a gun or bow and not shooting at anything (hunting), watching High School and College wrestling, UFC and occasionally drawing. His best days are being with his family, and his passions are being a good husband and father and helping people.
For the past 12 years he has worked part time in his own personal practice providing addiction counseling to youth with behavior addictions as well as general private counseling services. Brandon has recently reopened his part time private counseling practice after a short pause during the COVID pandemic and is now working part time through Cornerstone Counseling office in Logan, Utah.
